This was the 3rd time The Rainforest Discovery Centre has become the venue for the 3rd Borneo Bird Festival 2011. Sabah Tourism was the main organizer for the event together with the Sandakan Borneo Bird Club and Sabah Society. The festival invited speakers from all over the globe, among invited speakers were Steve Shunk (USA), Samson Ho (Hong Kong), Alex Tiongco (Philippines), Denise Goodfellow (Australia), Dr. Bharat Jetva (India), Quentin Phillipps (United Kingdom), Wong Tsu Shi (Malaysia) and Cede Prudente (Malaysia). All of them shared valuable information and knowledge about birds  and biriding.

There were several competitions held like photography competitions and bird races. This year’s photography competition was divided into three categories, the photography contest, digiscoping and bird photography race. All are won by locals. The bird race was won by Borneo Rainforest Lodge Team for the second year in a row.  Nikon Malaysia was the main sponsor for all the prizes.

Several local primary schools also sent their students to attend the event and even participated in some of the activities such as the coloring contest and the Junior Bird Race. This year, more booths was setup which comprised Nikon Malaysia, Canon Marketing, North Borneo Safari, Sabah Parks and many more.
